The iMod Frame – The Heart of Our System

The building block of our high performance building system is the iMod Frame.

Each and every iMod Frame is 40 feet long, 8 feet wide and 9 feet 6 inches tall, designed to meet the universally adopted intermodal shipping specifications, enabling easily, cost-efficient transportation of iMod Frames anywhere in the world via rail, road or sea.

Our frames are manufactured of heavy, tube-steel beams and columns welded to the most rigorous seismic AWS standard: D1.8. Each frame weighs approximately six tons and because of this moment frame design, they have no structural (shear) walls.

iMod frames are interchangeable and expandable. All iMod frames are constructed exactly the same so that a one-story building can become a two-story building. For instance, a 960-square-foot classroom can become a 1,280-square-foot classroom or a two-story classroom or administrative facility can be downsized to a one-story classroom.

This mechanical “connection/ reconnection” solution provides maximum flexibility for municipalities and school districts to load-match fluctuating housing needs and student body populations with their inventory of existing classrooms and housing unit. Because the modular design does not require welding, there is no need to grind-out welds to take them apart. Instead, the design has an intra-floor bolting system that precludes the need to weld modules together, greatly simplifying and expediting the process of adding (or subtracting) modules in either vertical or horizontal configurations.

Moreover, because the iMod frames do not contain shear walls, the system enables maximum flexibility with regard to space planning. Multiple iMod frames may be ganged together, side-by-side, to create larger spaces. If necessary, large buildings can be reconfigured into smaller units without any re-engineering. Turn a solid wall into a wall of glass. Add entrances wherever you wish, whenever you wish.
